Cool and unsettled weather continues well into next week. More settled and warmer warmer periods are possible during the second half of the month.
Saturday starts showery in the north and west but the south and east are mostly dry. During the day showers become widespread and heavy, with hail and thunder mixed in. The best of the dry periods this afternoon are likely to be in Scotland.
It will be cool with maximum temperatures about 12C (54F) in the north and 16C (61F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
This evening it becomes mostly dry and chilly under clearing skies. By the end of the night outbreaks of rain push into the north west of the UK.
Tomorrow wet and windy weather spreads southeastwards. Clearer skies follow from the northwest but heavy showers develop. Temperatures remain on the low side for the first half of September.
Early next week the cool and unsettled weather continues. There are signs of high pressure bringing a drier and more settled period during the second half of the week.
