Despite much of the UK seeing showers or longer spells of rain today and tomorrow the meteorological autumn is expected to start on a dry note this Friday. The first half of September looks mixed but the south should have quite a lot of dry weather.
Wednesday begins wet in much of the southern half of the UK but the north is brighter with scattered showers. Through the day the rain spreads eastwards and it will be heavy at times. Clearer skies follow into Wales and western England this afternoon. Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England have a mix of sunshine and showers throughout.
In the wet south it will be cool with temperatures peaking around 14C (55F) but eastern Scotland could see 20C (68F). See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight the rain pulls away eastwards to leave clear spells. In the west there will be showers.
Tomorrow all regions have a mix of sunshine and heavy showers. In sunny spells it will feel pleasant.
On Friday scattered showers remain in the east but for most it will be fine. High pressure brings a sunny Saturday but wet weather returns from the west on Sunday.
