The temperature reached 28.2C at Holbeach, Lincolnshire yesterday making it the warmest August Bank Holiday Monday on record. It is now turning cooler but after a wet interlude high pressure should build later this week to bring more dry weather.
Tuesday starts with a band of patchy rain stretching across northern England and northern Wales. Through the day it edges southwards but the rain fizzles away. Areas to the north have a cooler day with scattered showers. Southern counties remain mostly dry but this afternoon there will be more cloud and a few sharp showers could break out.
The south has a warm day with temperatures peaking close to 27C (81F) in Kent and Essex, but the north will be much cooler. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight rain pushes into the south, and in the south east it becomes heavy and thundery. The north has a mostly dry night but in the far north west showers continue.
Tomorrow thundery rain affects central and south eastern England. Areas to the north and west have sunshine and scatted showers. The wet weather clears on Thursday morning to leave cooler and showery conditions.
