Bank Holiday record

[Updated 07:10 28/08/2017]

Fine weather

Cooler air returns southwards in the next few days and there will be rain at times. During the second half of the week high pressure brings a good deal of dry weather.

Bank Holiday Monday begins wet in the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is dry but fog has formed in places overnight. During the day the rain slowly spreads southeastwards across the northern half of the UK, but it becomes patchy. Clear periods return behind it in the north. Southern Wales and most of England have a fine day with sunny periods once early mist burns away.

The north will be quite cool but in the south 29C (84F) may be reached, which would make it the warmest August Bank Holiday on record. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy spells of rain affect Wales and central England. Some showers are likely in the north west but other areas remain dry.

Tomorrow the rain fades away as it sinks southeastwards but there is a risk of thunderstorms developing in the south east later on. The south east has another very warm day but elsewhere it will be cooler.

During Tuesday night and into Wednesday thundery bursts of rain affect the south east and there is a risk of them pushing northwards across England and Wales.
