Hurricane Gert's legacy

[Updated 07:15 18/08/2017]

Downpour

The remnants of Hurricane Gert influence the weather this weekend and early next week. During the second half of next week a drier period is likely in the south.

Friday is off to a wet start in Scotland and through the day outbreaks of rain continue. In the rest of the UK there will be  of sunny spells but also showers which become heavy and thundery at times in Northern Ireland and western Britain. The east has  dry periods this morning but showers become more widespread in the afternoon.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north west to 21C (70F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight it turns drier in Scotland for a time but late on more rain pushes into the west. Elsewhere showers become increasingly restricted to the west.

Tomorrow brings mixed weather. Showers become focused on northern and eastern areas. Other areas have an increasing amount of dry and sunny spells.

After a dry start on Sunday the remnants of Hurricane Gert bring a risk of rain from the southwest. Forecast details are uncertain but heavy rain is possible in the south west and west. Gert's other impact will be to send temperatures soaring in the south early next week due to the tropical air embedded in it. On Monday and Tuesday  28C (82F) could be reached but the north is likely to have heavy rain.
