The outlook remains changeable but the weekend should coincide with a drier and warmer interlude. Next week Atlantic weather systems bring the likelihood of more rain.
Wednesday starts wet in the southern half of the UK but the north is dry. This morning southern and central regions have outbreaks of rain but brighter conditions edge southeastwards. During the afternoon it remains wet in central southern England, the south east and East Anglia. Elsewhere it should be mostly dry.
Under the cloud and rain it will be unusually cool for August with temperatures peaking at around 14C (57F). In the brighter areas 20C (68F) is possible. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight wet weather becomes confined to East Anglia and the south east. Elsewhere a dry night develops.
Tomorrow morning showery rain is likely in the south east. The rest of the UK starts fine but cloud builds in the north and outbreaks of rain spread into the north west.
On Friday wet and windy weather moves southeastwards across northern and western areas. Central and eastern England stay dry for much of the day.
The weekend weather looks reasonable. Early on Saturday outbreaks of rain clear southeastwards. The rest of the day and Sunday should be dry in the south but scattered showers are possible in the north.
