Heavy showers building

[Updated 06:30 31/07/2017]

Shower clouds

July is finishing on a very mixed note but despite the unsettled conditions the Central England Temperature (CET) is about 1C above the average. The TWO outlook for August will be online later today.

Monday starts with outbreaks of rain in central Scotland and scattered showers elsewhere. This morning sunny spells develop but showers become more widespread and in the afternoon they affect much of the country. Central and south eastern England probably remain mostly dry.

Temperatures will be similar to recent days, ranging from from 15C (59F) in the north to 21C (70F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers continue in the west. Elsewhere it becomes mostly dry and under clearing skies it will be quite cool for the time of year.

Tomorrow brings a repeat performance. After a fine start showers become widespread and a few more may reach the south than today.

Wednesday starts dry but wet weather steadily pushes in from the west. In  the south west and Wales the rain becomes heavy, but eastern counties should remain dry until late in the day. Drier conditions return overnight and then heavy showers return on Thursday.

A ridge of high pressure could bring a more settled weekend but the outlook looks quite changeable. Buzz discusses August and our first tentative look ahead to winter 2017/18 has been issued.
