Weekend washout for some

[Updated 06:30 22/07/2017]

Umbrella

Low pressure sitting over the UK will put a damper on the weekend. Next week the weather remains changeable but there may be some warmer and drier days to remind us it is high summer.

Saturday is off to a wet start in northern and eastern England but elsewhere it is mostly dry. Through the day the rain slowly spreads northwards into southern Scotland. Elsewhere bright spells develop this morning but heavy showers push into the southwest. During the afternoon showers become thundery and persistent across the southern half of the UK. Northern Ireland and northern Scotland probably remain drier and brighter.

Maximum temperatures will be be close to 21C (70F) in the far north west and possibly East Anglia. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight showery outbreaks of rain continue the north and east. In the west it should become drier.

Tomorrow cloudy conditions and outbreaks of rain affect central and eastern Scotland. In the rest of the country some bright spells are expected but heavy showers break out and become widespread again. Temperatures will be below par for July and the weather could cause problems for the Open golf at Royal Birkdale.

Buzz investigates the longer term outlook and our first autumn prospects discussion has been issued.
