We've had spots of rain all morning then a very brief slightly sharper shower 5 minutes ago. Bit of a disappointing muggy morning.

It's now 25.9 C & 63% H but actually comfortable in a warm way with a refreshing breeze blowing through my house with all windows open, not really that muggy sticky-like. Might sing a different tune when the sun swings around to the front of my west-facing house this afternoon, though.

Cloudy at Luton Airport and 28C. Was bright a few minutes ago but the cloud has thickened and we now have large raindrops falling.

I wasn’t expecting rain here in the south but looks like some will arrive in the next hour.

The thermometer outside the office says 30C and it's quite sunny again though the radar shows some bits and blobs. It feels tropically humid so I've brought out some indoor plants, placed them in the shade and given them a good feed and watering. I try to do this most years when it's like this.

Extensive high cloud and an onshore sea breeze are preventing things from getting too hot in my famed west facing hobby room with the window open this evening. Currently 23.9 C & 70% H from a peak of 26.7 C at 2.40 pm.

Here in Edinburgh, the earlier clouds have now cleared away and the Sun has come out a lot more, but a total of just 1.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for the whole of today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening.

Just to show how boring and uninteresting our weather here in Edinburgh has now become, this is even shown by the virtual absence of any sort of diurnal temperature range during today.

Last night was a very hot and sticky night which came not all that far away from giving us which would have been our first ever official tropical night that I know of. However, the temperature then just stuck around the 20°C mark all day, more or less refusing to budge from that at any point in time.

Today's actual maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 21.7°C which is still warm, but which is actually quite a lot cooler than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening was (yes, you've guessed it) around 20°C here in Edinburgh.

A much better day today with clear skies all afternoon and evening. Also the hottest day of the year with a max of 26.4C

Why couldn't it have been like this yesterday? Obviously because it was the Local Holiday Monday

It's been a running theme this summer. Whenever the weather is supposed be good it's not great and when it's meant to deteriorate it improves significantly.

Top temp here today was meant to be 25c on the south coast. My digital thermometer in the shade in my garden currently shows 31.7c
