Unbroken sunny skies, 18.0c after an overnight low of 16.8c. Noticeable northerly breeze this morning but its not spoiling what is a lovely day.

The thermometer shows 24C under what were to start the day fresh F4 NNW winds and a low of 16C. Not wall to wall sunshine by any means with some disrespectful clouds now making an appearance. Good washing drying day though.

A nice, sunny day here in Edinburgh although there is some high to medium level cloud around as well.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 10.9°C.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 11am BST (10:00 UTC) this morning was around 17°C here in Edinburgh.

Yet again it's overcast after managing only a pitiful 2 hours sun so far today

This high pressure is just poison. It's stuck in completely the wrong position allowing an endless stream of vile muck from the NW to spoil day after rotten day.

Really need to be a significant improvement if it's not to end up the dullest July since 2012. No decent weather at all except during working hours

Significantly cooler than yesterday as well at only 18.9C so yet to see a weekend day reach 20C this summer which is shocking given the amount of sunshine there was during June

Fair with sunny spells and partial cloud. Quite a refreshing 19.5 C & 81% H with a notable breeze in from the north east blowing through my house via open windows.

The Sun is still shining here in Edinburgh, but not as continuously as it was a couple of days ago as there is also a lot of cloud around.

Even with that, the Sun is still out for most of the time but a total of only 4.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon.

The MSL air pressure at Edinburgh Gogarbank is still very high for this time of the year as well, at exactly 1,030.0 mb as at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon. That has dropped slightly from a peak of 1,031.2 mb earlier on this morning, but that drop in pressure has been completely arrested during the last hour and that earlier maximum air pressure is also our highest MSL air pressure of this summer so far.

About an hour ago, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank rose to around 21°C and once again, it had looked then as though today might end up being our warmest day of this year so far.

However, the temperatures have refused to rise any further since then, and the temperature at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon has dropped back slightly to around 20°C here in Edinburgh.

A subtle switch in wind direction from offshore NNW'ly to onshore ENE'ly saw a fairly abrupt fall of temperature just after 2pm locally. Many stations dropped over 2 degrees in little over 20 minutes.

Max was 22.9c before the switch. 20.7c now.

The cooler air has brought in additional humidity; 60% at 2pm, 76% now. The dewpoint of 16c is giving a clammy feel now.

As much as I love a good heatwave from a statistical perspective, every day spared from it is very welcome. Living near the coast has its benefits, so long as the breeze plays ball !

Beautiful day deep blue sky and 24.7c in a moderate NNE breeze. The sea looks turquoise and actually quite warm on the feet…

There was a 2C drop here, too (22.1C at the moment), but the dewpoint is a bit higher: 16.5C. I could actually smell the wind changing direction, as the air coming in now has a bit of a damp whiff to it.

Absolutely VILE day plagued with pointless depressingly featureless grey cloud while everywhere else has clear skies

Not a glimmer of sun all afternoon and only 17C. The worst day since last Saturday

Sick to death of this revolting cloudfest July. The only worse spell of weather this year was the first half of April when the schools were on Easter Holidays

In complete contrast to the situation in Aberdeen (at least, according to RichardAbdn anyway) it has actually got even sunnier over time here in Edinburgh as this afternoon and evening has gone on with all of that earlier cloud cover having now completely disappeared some time ago.

That has happened too late for today to have any chance of being our sunniest day of the year, but today's total is still turning out to be quite decent anyway with a total of 9.2 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening.

There was also another increase in the temperature after my last report on here and today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 23.2°C.

Once again though, that falls just short of our highest temperature of this year so far which was achieved on 23 June 2022, although today was still our warmest day of this month so far.

However, this is now the second time this month that we have come very close to getting our warmest day of the year so far, without actually managing to do so which is now getting a bit frustrating.

If the forecasts are right, we might have a better chance of achieving that tomorrow but then, it is forecast to cool down for a few days at least.

This means that tomorrow might be our only chance for that to happen if those predictions within the latest model output for more hot weather later on next week don't come off.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening was around 21°C here in Edinburgh.
