June ended on a cooler and more unsettled note. These cooler and more unsettled conditions have persisted into the start of July but the coming week will see high pressure taking over from the Azores turning the weather drier and weather although with winds frequently from a northwesterly direction don't expect a heatwave...

Saturday morning has been showery. We've had a band of showery rain spreading southeastwards across England and Wales with heavy showers and longer spells of rain across northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Much of the south and east has been mainly dry so far.

Through the rest of the day we'll see the band of showery rain clearing from southern and southeastern England with sunshine and showers following along behind. Some of the showers will be heavy and thundery especially in the northern half of the country where the downpours could merge into longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be cool today at 15C to 21C.

Overnight, most of the showers will fade back to Scotland, Northern Ireland and western parts of England and Wales with many inland regions becoming dry. We should have clear spells, especially in the east, with temperatures ranging from 8C to 13C.

Tomorrow will stay dry away from the north west with sunny spells in many places. Showers will quickly up with a rash of heavy and possibly thundery showers breaking out though southern counties will tend to stay dry and later in the day the showers will become confined to eastern regions while the west becomes dry. Temperatures 15C to 22C.

High pressure ridges in from off the Atlantic on Monday. We should have a mostly dry day with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud. Watch out for some light showers across northern and western Scotland. Temperatures will be pleasantly warm at 16C to 23C.

High pressure remains dominant for Tuesday though a weak weather front will bring cloud and patchy rain to parts of south west Scotland, Northern Ireland and north west England. Otherwise there should be plenty of dry weather with bright or sunny spells in the south and east in particular. Temperatures 15C to 24C north west to south east.

Wednesday is likely to have a north/south split with cloud and patchy rain across the northern half of the country while the southern half should have a lot of dry weather albeit with a fair amount of cloud. The best of the sunshine will be the further south you go. Temperatures 15C to 24C.

Thursday will see cloud and patchy rain becoming mostly confined to northern Scotland with the rest of the country seeing increasing amounts of sunshine developing from the south. Very warm at 16C to 25C.

High pressure rules the roost on Friday too. Patchy rain is possible for northern and western Scotland but the bulk of the country looks dry with good spells of sunshine. Very warm to locally hot in the south east with temperatures ranging from 18C to 28C.

Next weekend should keep high pressure in control so more dry, sunny and very warm weather will continue with temperatures reaching a locally hot 30C (86F) in the south.

Summary: Starting quite cool and showery but soon turning drier and warmer with very warm or hot weather by next weekend.
