Conclusion:
This month got off to a cool start and although I don't usually expect to be including any frost data in a summer monthly or seasonal statistics thread (there are no long term averages for the number of air frosts in this part of the world during any of the summer months as there is during the rest of the year), the fact that I have had to include that data on this occasion shows just cold it has got here on certain nights.
However, the temperatures recovered a bit during the second half of the month which therefore, actually ended up being slightly warmer than average overall although our highest temperature of this month was still a little bit on the low side for a warmer than average summer month.
Once again, it was a substantially drier than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts although the number of official rain days was fairly close to average.
When any summer month is drier than average in this manner though, we would also normally expect it to also be sunnier than average overall.
Up until a few days ago, it was even looking likely that this would actually end up being the case until a much cloudier end to the month resulted in this month actually being slightly duller than average overall, albeit close enough to the long term average for me to really class it as an average month in terms of sunshine amounts.
However, this just show how difficult it is for us to actually get a sunnier than average summer month in these parts.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
