Yes, that's another system which developed quickly. It had only a 30% chance of developing into a storm yesterday but it's now a 70% chance.

Catastrophic flooding as both rainfall and tides combine to cause maximum effect.

Yes it looks like the Tampa area could be badly impacted by Ian in the coming days.

Sustained winds now 155mph making it a top end Cat 4 hurricane. Its possible it could become a Cat 5 still.

Cape Coral is part of Fort Myers, just south of the predicted landfall

The latest NHC discussion (11am EDT) says the most recent data puts Ian on the threshold of Cat 5, due to further rapid intensification.

Yes it has been on the threshold for some time now as even 6 hours ago sustained winds were 155mph.  However tally's later post mistakingly said it had been upgraded to a Cat 5.

Top end Cat 4 although I don't think you would notice much difference in the wind between 155mph & 157mph 😄

I think of perhaps as much concern is the latest forecast showing that Ian will not weaken as much as previously expected as it passes over Florida and out into the Atlantic. The latest forecast has it just a little below a Cat 1 (65mph) as it exits the east coast of Florida.
