High pressure will bring plenty of dry weather to southern and eastern regions this week but the north and west will be more unsettled with spells of rain. Temperatures will generally be mild with winds from a southerly or southwesterly direction so the warm autumn of 2021 continues... for now...

Saturday morning has been mostly dry across much of the country but there has been a lot of cloud with only bright or sunny spells in the east and south. Western and northern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland have had outbreaks of rain.

This afternoon will bring more wet weather to western and northern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. The rain will push a little further eastwards through other parts of Scotland and possibly to north west England by this evening. Elsewhere there should be a lot of dry weather but cloud amounts will vary. The best of the bright and sunny spells will be in the south and east. Temperatures will range from 7C to 14C. A little milder than yesterday.

Overnight, the band of rain continues through much of Scotland, though the north east probably stays dry, with the rain stretching down the Irish Sea to south west England. Northern Ireland will have clear spells and showers while the rest of England and Wales stays dry but with a lot of cloud. Winds will become strong and gusty in the north and west with 50mph gusts possible through the Irish Sea. Despite the rain and wind at least it will be mild with temperatures of 7C to 12C.

Sunday morning could see the band of rain turning very heavy across southern Scotland, north west England and north Wales. But as the rain pushes further east it will weaken so we probably just have a few showers though the Midlands, southern and southeastern England on Sunday afternoon and evening. Scotland, Northern Ireland and north west England will turn brighter but still with showers.

Monday will see the UK in a "flat" westerly wind. We'll have sunny spells and showers with most of the showers tending to be in the west. Central and eastern regions will have the driest, brightest weather but even here some showers are possible. Temperatures 6C to 16C north to south.

Pressure will rise from the south on Tuesday keeping most parts of the country mainly dry albeit with a lot of cloud and only limited bright or sunny spells. Patchy rain is possible across northern and western Scotland which may turn heavy and persistent on Tuesday evening. A very mild day with temperatures at 9C to 16C.

A new area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic on Tuesday night and through Wednesday. A band of heavy and persistent rain will spread southeastwards from Scotland and Northern Ireland to northern England, Wales and south west England allowing brighter, showery conditions into Scotland and Northern Ireland. The rest of England and Wales will stay dry but will again have a lot of cloud. Becoming quite windy but also a warm day with temperatures of 10C to 17C.

Low pressure pushes across the country on Thursday. Initially the wettest weather will be in the north and west with southern and eastern counties mostly dry but as the day wears on a band of heavy rain and strong winds probably spreads across the country. Winds could reach gale force in the west for a time. Another very mild day with temperatures of 12C to 17C but turned cooler in the north west later.

On Friday we probably see a return to sunshine and showers. The persistent rain should clear the south east corner first thing and then we settle into a classic sunshine and showers scenario with most of the showers in the west and north. Temperatures a little cooler at 7C to 14C.

Next weekend could turn very wet and windy, maybe even stormy, but also very mild with temperatures possible rising to 19C in the south east.

Summary: A lot of dry weather in the south and east with the wettest weather in the north and west. Generally very mild or warm.
