This morning has started off on a damp and miserable note here in Edinburgh with thick fog and drizzle lingering on after some heavy overnight rain, and it is still really dark here as I write despite the fact that that the official time of sunrise is less than an hour away.

As at 6am this morning, a total of 16.6 mm of rain had fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 10am BST (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning, along with 17.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That makes yesterday the wettest day of this autumn so far at both of those stations.

However, last night was also much milder than of late with the temperatures no lower than what they were at their highest point during yesterday.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 6am this morning was around 10ºC here in Edinburgh.

24hrs of rain here in the Langdales, Lakes. Water cascading off the mountains and flooding down the valley. Lying low in the hotel for now!

It doesn’t really feel as if the day got going as it’s been quite dark for most of it. Dark, damp and drizzly all morning, dry this afternoon but gloomy until late afternoon.

It's been the same here in Edinburgh.

Today has been gloomy with mist and fog throughout the day, as well as some further drizzly rain at times.

That hasn't amounted to much but since 10am this morning, this has resulted in a further 1.2 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 7pm this evening.

The gloomy weather has meant that today has been yet another completely sunless day at Edinburgh Gogarbank and since there wasn't any recorded sunshine there during yesterday either, this means that this entire weekend has been completely sunless at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

We are only just over halfway through this month and yet, today is already our 6th sunless day of this month, this is really turning out to be quite an excetionally dull month here. Furthermore, tomorrow isn't even expected to much better either as more rain is then forecast to move in from the west.

Today's maximum temperature was 12.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm this evening was around 12ºC here in Edinburgh.

Rather poor here today but on the mild side at 13C
There has been patchy drizzle and low cloud most of the time.

Utterly revolting SE'ly muck all day long. No sun, appalling light levels and visibility and another 7.2mm of rain which is the last thing that's needed

All three weekends in this revolting October have been dire, and in defiance of any reasonable expectation, it just keeps getting worse with each weekend duller than the preceeding one

At least in the past you could get bad weather capable of raising interest levels of rock bottom. Not the case any more with another all time low reached with regards to stupefying lack of temperature variation. After a below average max of 11.5C, which was colder than yesterday, it's now been stuck on 11.3C with no deviation for exactly 5 hours

If we had the same weather 30 years ago as we get now I would have never got interested in it. Not remotely.
