High pressure continues to bring a lot of dry weather but the anticyclone is now breaking down and the coming week will be much more unsettled with low pressure bringing bouts of heavy rain and gale force winds. After a warm start to the week expect cooler or even colder air to move into the north and west. Autumn. Is. Coming.

Saturday morning has been mostly dry but there have been some showers in the south east with more persistent rain now starting to move towards Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

This afternoon we'll see outbreaks of rain setting in across western and southwestern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland . Meanwhile clouds will thicken more generally across northern and western regions with the best of todays bright and sunny spells in the south and east. Temperatures will range from 7C to 17C north to south - cold in the north, mild in the south.

Overnight, cloud will spread across the country with showery outbreaks of rain for Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. The rest of England and Wales will stay mostly dry but with a lot of cloud. Temperatures will be mild at 7C to 12C

Sunday will start cloudy with showery rain across central and northern regions but the south will be dry. We should find most of the rain dying out but a few patches of light rain and drizzle could continue in the north and west. Temperatures 8C to 17C.

High pressure has completely collapsed by Monday with low pressure in the Atlantic and a brisk southwesterly wind.

Western and southwestern regions will have outbreaks of rain on Monday morning while northern and eastern regions start dry. The band of rain will then spread northeastwards probably becoming lighter and patchier as it does so. Following the rain will be damp and murky conditions but also very warm air. Feeling warm and humid with temperatures of 10C to 17C.

Low pressure will be deepening in the Atlantic on Tuesday with a weather front stuck ahead of it. Expect another cloudy day with the best of any bright spells in the south east. We'll also have outbreaks of rain across the west with the rain turning heavy and persistent in the south west through the afternoon. Temperatures will be exceptionally warm at 13C to 20C although a brisk southwesterly wind will make if feel cooler.

Low pressure pushes through the country on Tuesday night and Wednesday. A band of heavy and persistent rain will sweep eastwards through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning followed by sunny spells and blustery showers. Winds could reach gale force in the west and south west. After a very warm night and morning temperatures are likely to drop through Wednesday itself. We could still reach 17C in the south east first thing but temperatures are likely to end up at around 7C to 14C.

A new area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic on Thursday. Most places start dry with sunny spells but heavy rain will sweep eastwards across England and Wales especially while Scotland has sunshine and showers. A cool day with temperatures of 7C to 13C.

Friday finds low pressure moving away to the east pulling in a strong and cold northerly wind. We'll have showers in the north and east but many southern and western regions will stay dry with sunny spells. Showers could turn wintry across Scotland with snow falling to low levels across the far north of Scotland. Temperatures will be cold at 5C to 11C.

Next weekend keeps the unsettled weather going. Saturday is likely to be mostly dry, sunny and cold with a widespread frost to start. Sunday turns cloudy and wet but despite the rain at least it will be mild.

Summary: Starting mostly dry but soon becoming wet and windy. Very mild start to next week but cold by next weekend.
