Since today is the first day of the meteorological summer, I thought that this would be a good time to start this thread.

For now, this summer is starting off on a fairly decent note for most of us, so we might see a few gloats here over the next day or so in particular.

However, we know that Richard from Aberdeen will usually always manage to find something about his local weather which he isn't happy with, regardless of what the weather is actually in his part of the world.

In addition to that, more of us may well have more to moan about if this summer ends up not being so great after all.

Regardless of how it all turns out though, this is the very place to post your own rants about what is happening, or to gloat about that.

A beautiful start to the meteorological summer! So no moans from me in that respect.

Glorious Med like weather and June looks another remarkable summer month (esp down here).

Too damned hot indoors already - effortlessly broke 30C earlier, so the a/c's on full pelt. Looks like an end to the lovely run of deep sleep nights I had in May.

Still, at least it's only a couple of weeks until the mornings start drawing in. That gives me solace, even though there's a lot of heat to come.

I wish my house does get warm to hot quickly like you as here inside just reached 23C hallway where the thermostat is and 24C upstairs, that only can warm up inside if windows are OPEN otherwise it will self get cooler by itself and stay very cool if windows are closed.  Bene open all day today when temps reached 24C outside.   Last year highest max indoors was 34C living room, 31.5 hallway and 33C upstairs when outside was 34C as well with windows and back door wide open and then shut it and never open again  to store the warmth when we had bad early July after the heatwave and the house stay warm enough for over a week before heating came on when it drop to 18C during prolonged cool unsettled days.  I also keep the loft hatch open to being the extra warmth inside .as the loft itself get hot on sunny days.

We both thinking to move house again next year to find a place that sit in E, S and W position unlike this one S and N with limited west sun as it blocked by the neighbor house.  I told my wife if we have sun in the west or east sid windows it will really make it very warm inside like Ian does on his famed west side window,  I only have 1 small window on the west here for the toiler room but only get sun for 2 hours before it blocked again.

If you really want that (and be careful what you wish for!) - buy a house with a flat roof upstairs, a converted bungalow like mine would be ideal.

Then you can "enjoy" temperatures in the 30s for much of the period from mid-May to mid-September!

Just shows how our baseline is 2-3 degrees higher now as it very easily goes over 25 c. Went into Salisbury at 11.am this morning for wifes  vaccine and the car was showing 24c and it felt like a sultry mid July day.

I shouldn't moan really as all I wished for in May was some sunshine. I have got my wish, but the temperatures remain disappointing in my location to say the least. Even in the sun it has felt cold with the brisk southeasterly the past few days. Temps ranging from 12-14c at best. Just need the high further south and the models do look more promising for less North sea influence in a few days time fingers crossed!

Having said that though, I have often said that more interesting weather tends to affect other parts of the UK whilst we generally miss out on that here in Edinburgh.

Now, it seems as though the same thing is happening with summer itself as other parts of the UK are basking in temperatures of around 25°C or so, whilst we continue to be stuck with cool winds from off the North Sea and yet more easterly muck (Edinburgh Gogarbank hasn't even reached 20°C at any time during this entire year so far, let alone 25°C).

Paitence grasshopper...

Summer is only 2 days old 🙂 There will be times when Edinburgh and the east has warm sunshine whilst western areas are cloaked in cloud & drizzle.

Warmest day of the year here remains in March which is ludicrous. Also happened in 1953 when it wasn't beaten until well into June but then it had reached 20C in March. Yet to see 18C during this extraordinarily bleak and depressing year

There has been no warm spell whatsoever just relentless onshore winds giving us the same desperately bleak climate as Shetland. The average high over the last five days has been close to average at 15.8C but that is only when the sun is out. When that ghastly filth moves in it has been as stupefyingly cold as it was for much of the past five weeks. Down to 9C before sunset yesterday and 10.7C now

Funny how we never had any mist and low cloud under the high pressure in April. Yet that is the time of year you would expect it be most problematic, becoming less of an issue by this stage. However nowadays it just gets worse the further into summer you go defying any rational explanation.

The last 6 weeks has horrific without any redeeming qualities. Just like the first halves of summer 2007 and 2012 but then we had at least seen a fair amount of warm sunshine during spring. This year none at all. March 2012 had a mean maximum 1.5C warmer than May 2021 while April 2007 was some 3.3C warmer.

Records for persistent cold and lack of warmth will be smashed unless these hideous winds relent.

This was taken yesterday - a bare tree in June

Never seen anything like it. That was taken in the walled garden at Seaton Park which is well sheltered as the azaleas at my local park at Hazlehead, which are normally at their best at this time of year, have yet to put in an appearance

What is it about this country that allows us to get a day of persistent cloud and rain in the south of England even in June!? Just when you think you are getting into a decent spell of weather we get an awful day like today. I can handle a couple of hours of rain, or even a few heavy thunderstorms but rain all day? Come on! It feels like our country is a magnet for slow moving weather fronts that appear to get invigorated as they hit our shores.

It's days like today that give our climate a bad name. And if anybody says we need the rain again ......

I've really enjoyed it today, the weather was by far the best bit of the day (which consisted of a day off work... starting with an hour-long dentist appointment followed by double glazing salesmen coming to quote for window replacements).

The ground was just getting to that "too dry" state, and yes, it did need some rain, so the rain was very welcome. It'll be back to the sun tomorrow!

(And the best bit of all is there's no need to run the a/c tonight, meaning I'll get a wonderful night's sleep.)

Oh come on, try living in NW England in the rain when you know that just a couple of hundred miles down south it's been warm & sunny. Happens time & time again far more than the other way around.

That said, just checked the rainfall radar and the rain does seem to have been far more extensive/persistent that I recall it being forecast yesterday.
