Considering the wind strength I would be surprised to see any temperature records broken in the coming week.

frost is more likely next weekend as the wind drops. Its just going to be cold and raw

Tuesday night into wednesday is perfect especially if we get snow cover. Slackening winds, ridge of high pressure, approaching warm front.

Its going to be ridiculously cold.

Yesterday morning saw -2.2'c here under quite mild uppers. It will be interesting to see how things develop given the strong winds initially. As others have said, it will be a case of things turning bitter at night as winds drop. Also, if you have snow cover that will have a big effect

This is what its all about.

Sparkling sunshine after some earlier snow.

7.3c but with a dewpoint of -5.6c.

Planting up the summer hanging baskets in the polytunnel this afternoon is a very enjoyable experience. A toasty 25c in there at the moment.

Another record I think was broken today: total renewables power generation. At one point early afternoon we were generating 16.5gw wind and 6.5gw solar so 23gw in total (plus a bit of hydro and biomass). I think the previous record set last spring was around 21gw.

That's interesting, I was researching for an article about the low humidity yesterday/today increasing the amount of electricity from solar panels. I know that yesterday was the greenest energy day ever with 60% of electricity from green sources.

Manchester Airport recording a phenomenal -4°C at the moment. For here, that's pretty extraordinary considering we're not even at solar midnight yet!

Could I be looking at -5°C maybe even -6°C by sunrise? 😯

-2.5 in central Chichester.

I haven't been systematic in keeping records, but I think this was the coldest night of the 'winter'.
