The lake is heated in the part with the waterfowl so they have somewhere to swim. It is also skating place when the ice is thick enough.

It really has been a very wintry day in Reykjavik - still snowing on that cam even now.

My time-lapse for today. A very cold April day, with possibly the coldest morning in the month since 1989:

I went for a 10k run today, it was legitimately horrible.

I've been on loads of runs before where the temp is cold but the dryness and low dewpoints meant every breath was almost painful on the lungs. Downright hideous weather and one of the most notably cold runs I've ever been on.

Two contrasting versions of April

"The Wasteland" by T. S. Eliot

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.....
What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man,
You cannot say, or guess for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water...

From the Canterbury Tales "The General Prologue" by G. Chaucer

What that April with his showres soote
The droughte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed ever viene in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendered is the flowr;
What Zephyrus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
the tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath the Ram his halve cour yronne,
And smale fowles maken melodye
That sleepen al the night with open ye-
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgramages

Not too hard to see which is this years version.

Heavy slow moving wintry showers for much of the E midlands and Yorkshire tommorow.

Popping up from mid morning onwards.

It was a strange day. It was -4.3C at about dawn and yet JUST to my south, I could see convective cloud inland that was developing.

Who seriously wants a cold snap in mid April? Only a weather masochist perhaps. April is not the time for snow and cold but for warm spring sunshine!! After the year we have all had don't we deserve a break?

Here in the Massif Central we have been blessed with several weeks of wall to wall sunshine, but temperatures have been well below average with uncomfortably cold Northerly and North easterly gales. Last two days was the first rain for several weeks.

For me the pattern has been set for many months. Exceptionally warm, hot or mild spells followed by a severe plunge in temperatures and the air coming out of the arctic. A few weeks ago we saw 25 degrees and then a few days ago had -4 temperatures and devastating frosts and cold winds. Slovenia saw -21 in April!!  It's just so up and down. We don't appear to have a seasonal climate anymore, just ever increasingly severe outbreaks of cold and hot whatever the time of year. Oh if only we hadn't screwed our stable and seasonal climate!

My time-lapse for today. A very interesting day with some patches of snow this morning, giving way to sunshine and wintry showers later on. Some nice cloudscapes at times too:
