0z GFS is the 4th run in a row that manages to get some heat to the UK.

Great news for owners of weather websites and apps but less good for those wanting fine and settled conditions. A jet stream profile like this doesn't look promising, although of course it is nothing more than another variable in the model output.

16-dayer even in week  2 still showing bulge of cool weather from Uk across to Poland even while Spain and E Russia heat up (Poland and Germany look well below average). Rainfall for UK week 1 after which it moves off E-wards

GFS - current LP slowly filling for the rest of this week, new LP then moving in from Atlantic 995 mb N Ireland Mon 17th drifting across UK to Baltic Thu 20th. HP with brief warmth from the south Sat 22nd (APS is definitely an optimist!) but even this tussling with the Atlantic which tries to displace the warmth with a w-ly flow from LPs 975mb Rockall Mon 24th and N Ireland Thu 27th.

GEFS - mean temps close to or a little below norm to Thu 27th, good agreement to Sat 22nd after which warm outliers (op run) and cold outliers (control run) both appear, variation greatest in the S. Showery pattern of rain throughout

ECM - like GFS but places the small  LP Mon 17th over England, but then a deeper LP Fri 21st 990mb Western Isles. No sign of any high pressure developing.

GEFS ensemble set remains pretty boring if you want temperature variation. Average flatlined close to or a tad below average with conditions rather showery and unsettled. One day something will appear that creates interest (back to hibernation)

Some hints of something warmer and dryer in the latest GFS OPS run. Admittedly it is right at the top end of the ENS but there are two attempts for a ridge to push into the south of the UK. Both succeed temporarily but perhaps more importantly, their positioning allows very warm air to advect up from Spain through France. This is a similar scenario to other recent summers, after which it is quite easy for the UK to get feeds of heat, if only for very brief periods.

Definately worth watching (one for Line Of Duty fans there!).

Not much of a trend. All looks very iffy and models are constantly reverting to cool and unsettled. May is looking a write off to be honest.

Write off for what? After a a few heavy showers early this morning it is a pleasant bright and breezy day with the risk of more showers later.  Very good temps for working outside imo and some rain to keep things growing.

If you are a cricketer who misses the whole of last season due to lockdown, the incessant rain which has started as we moved into May makes it a write off, and is likely to remain so.

Hope this doesn't mean a 2007 or 2012 summer coming up.

Hyperbolic rubbish. We've had two matches and three outdoor training sessions so far this season, all of them in May. In every case the sun has been shining, and it's been a lovely spring day.

Why must you spout stuff that is demonstrably untrue?

He lives a distance away from you. In many parts of the UK, May has been showery and poor.

How is what i have said untrue? Have you been playing cricket in West Oxfordshire? We have had zero games so far. All washed out, including two friendlies. That is not untrue in any way.

We also trained in snow and severe gales, and so everything I have said is demonstrably true.

To be fair it has been a poor May in my locality. A combination of low temperatures, strong winds and showers have more often than not been an effective deterrent to gardening. I did a few hours this afternoon, but all in all it has not been pleasant.

I am sure you will get some good weather for cricket , maybe not yet though. I was not much good at cricket but the village team still wanted me to play, shows how useless they were . I can remember fielding in some far off position getting steadily colder as the ball never seemed to come my way.

Very unsettled and cool ECM run, and signs of the Northerlies coming back towards the end of the run. In fact I don't think I've seen a single ECM running showing anything remotely warm and settled for several days now...
