Hello all - I realize I haven't posted in this thread for a long time, apologies.
We've just had what has just been described as a "reasonable dump" by a neighbour. Started early this morning and has been going all day. Interestingly very local - only about 2-4 cm forecast, we have a lot more than that (25cm?). I'm fairly sure this is lake effect snow which is very unusual here as the prevailing winds tend to be offshore rather than onshore. We are about 500m from Lake Ontario in the Burlington/Oakville area.
Went for a lunchtime walk - even walking a mile or so away from the lake the snow depth reduces by a good 5-10cm.
Still snowing lightly but forecast to ease off by later this afternoon. There is another 5-10cm forecast for tomorrow and 12-20cm for next week. If it pans out will give us some proper snow for the first time this winter (which has been relatively snowless, if fairly cold for the last week or two).
The schools are in. Things keep going here, usually! The plows will be up and down the major routes continually until it stops, then they move to the minor roads. It can be 36 hours before it gets round to a residential road so the main challenge is usually getting to the end of your street. Snow tyres do make a difference but digging people out is a bit of a national pastime... I've been stuck in everything from a Nissan Micra to a pickup truck over the years!
Temp currently -8C, down to -11C tonight. Doesn't look like getting above zero for at least 7 days. Nothing that unusual for here but it keeps the snow nice and fluffy . Unfortunately now I have to go and shovel it
