LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.
With still over a monto go until the end of this winter, there has already been more rain during this winter at the botanic gardens in Edinbgurgh than the 1981-2010 winter average for that particular station which means that regardless of what hannens ther between now and the end of this winter, this winter will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amount.
A lot of the precipitation over the last 24 hours has fallen as snow which means that the actual totals are likely to be even higher than what has been reported here as we won't know what the rainfall equivalent of that be until this snow melts.
This means that there is a good chance that the botanic gardens in Edinburgh might already have had more than its 1981-2010 January average amount of rain during this month as only a very small amount of rain is required to get over that finishing line as it stands, and quite a lot of anow did fall overnight.
This this has been quite a cold month overall, you would normally expect it to be fairly dry as well. However, that isn't actually the case and in fact, this has turned out to be another wet winter month overall.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
