Little run of showers forming off east coast and coming inland. Met Office now forecasting moderate snow for 2 hours. Believe it when I see it, nothing like this was forecast anywhere!

The front that is now heading South looks a lot broader than this mornings , granted not as intense but nevertheless be interesting to see what is anything is delivered.

The auto forecasts, both BBC and MO, have removed any chance of ppn here tonight so they must see it either fizzling out or slipping east a lot quicker than it is now.

Quite a substantial band in the north east of Scotland almost with a trailing front... hadn't noticed that as being so prominent

It's very specific - if you look at Slough, the BBC forecast gives a 94% and 80% chance of snow in the next two hours.

Windsor and Maidenhead both don't show snow. It does look like that band might still give us another dusting.

EDIT: The forecasts are adjusting - we now have heavy snow showers at 11pm

Light to moderate snow again for more than an hour here now. Probably another 1cm or so up to this point.

Well here in Evesham it's amounted to a very light dusting - likely to be indisquishable from frost come the morning. No doubt everywhere else is getting burried though ....

Dont want to get ahead of myself... but i think theres a chance we could quickly find stalled fronts and significant snow quite widespread this week.

Hints that cold is going to dig its heels in...

Depending on which source you use, some are showing snow here in West Wiltshire tomorrow (in under 24 hours), later changing to sleet about 8am, then later changing to rain.

Could be an icy mess for a while as the ground is below freezing here

I'm not expecting settling snow below 200m anywhere from today until Friday. Although we never get the mild air here, 3 C is not cold enough!

Yep, seems there is a less chance of widespread snow (always an outside chance anyway) with a trend to bring the milder air slightly further north on this mornings runs. UKMO and ECM both have the 0c isotherm moving north of here. Arpege still snowy and ICON to some extent but in the minority.

Seems cold enough for snow in my area. Precip evaporating ahead of the front though.

In some ways good; large evap will cool the environment.

Weather warning out for Thursday/Friday - although in line with the models it isn't that inspiring for most of the population.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?id=44af8f90-d6ea-4b8e-ab84-6a1de9cd76b6&date=2021-01-28

The southern extent of most warning areas always need to be taken with a pinch of salt , i think they are overly cautious.

On reviewing the models this morning, I don't think we will get anything here, we might get a few hours of wet snow if we are lucky before the band moves through. Somewhere, will hit the jackpot Thursday with persistent heavy snow and the band stagnating but it is probably going to be a hill somewhere in the Far North of England or Scotland.

My cherry picked model of the day is Euro 4:
http://modeles14.meteociel.fr/modeles/euro4/runs/2021012606/euro4_uk1-46-54-0.png?26-11

But at 54 hours out it isn't usually correct.
