Spring Sun Winter Dread

Looking like yet another December for the "forgettably mild" category then
It'll be a shame in a way if we don't get a decent snowfall this winter as the disruption caused to people's lives in the context of whats going on now would be historically minimal !

Looking at the Dec predictions, I think you are the only one who can beat Darren S - but it needs a Dec CET of under 3.02c

Given the weather we'd need from now to the end of the month to deliver such a CET, I think everyone will be hoping I win

Yes, it looks like congratulations to Darren S then . Below that, all the runners up positions are up for grabs and largely dependent on how long and cold the cool down is. Looks like there will be a lot of reshuffling whichever way it goes!

It might not be a mild month overall. Depends on how the big diving trough scenario plays out, assuming it does at all, later next week.

GFS 06z had one of the colder outcomes modelled so far, with a run of cold days and freezing nights dragging my CET estimate down from the low 6s as of 23rd to the low 5s for the final figure.

The 00z, though, wasn't as cold, the CET staying in the higher half of the 5s. Then we have the ECM 00z which looks less cold still based on where it has things as of day 10.

This is all from a provisional Hadley CET starting point for 18th, mind, which may well be 0.1 to 0.3°C too high (as it often is).

Admired or derided?

(my thinking was that I could play safer and perhaps finish 6th or 7th, or go for a more extreme punt that would see me potentially top 3, because even if got it wrong, there's not much difference between 9th and 20th in the grand scheme of things )
