Just heard our first rumble...

Clump of TS looking like they'll miss just to our west, giving Liverpool a direct hit.

Very very similar pattern to the fantastic week of thunderstorms we had in june.  Had a funnel cloud over our house last time...

Pattern is similar all week... fingers crossed.

My word. In some areas, it may be a case of be careful what you wish for with some of the misery these events can bring.

In true Sod's Law fashion, that clump of showers moved NNW'wards at a stable size and was due to miss us to our west but then, perhaps just 20-30 miles south of here, they exploded in size and it's now hammering it down. No TnL.

If we get downpours around this area there is bound to be some flash flooding as the ground is baked hard.

Didn't last long, couple of minutes, soaked everywhere.

Sun's been back out for half an hour or so, everywhere dry now - but the breeze that was with us this morning has dissipated and it's gone really, really humid

Some decent storms developing over the West Midlands now. Looks like the Scousers are in for a good chance of something tonight.

Large clumps of Altocumulus forming dark sky to our south and SW. Don't think they are electrified though. We've not got the heat or humidity. Only reached 19 C here 😂

Many a time these things trundle up to Scotland even when we've not had any heat.

That's right. Ac cas feed on very warm, moist lower troposphere from the south rather than by direct surface heating, so they keep on forming thunderstorms even if it crosses cool surface, e.g., over cool seas.

I haven't heard any thunder here in the north of Edinburgh, but heavy and fairly torrential rain has now suddenly started to fall here after a few dry days.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
