Today has started off on a rather wet and miserable note here in Edinburgh, and it is still raining here as I write.

As at 7am this morning, that has resulted in a total of 3.2 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Last night was also cooler than of late with a return to single figures minimum temperatures for the first time since 22 June 2020. On that note, last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 9.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am this morning was around 10°C here in Edinburgh.

While today so far is turning out a lot more brighter than I thought with some good sunny spells, there's hardly any warmth in the sunshine on account of that brisk SW wind despite the current 18.1 c & 74% h. However things are drying up quickly after yesterday afternoon's downpour.

Today has been a complete write-off of a day here in Edinburgh.

After this morning's rainfall, there was a drier period during the latter part of this morning. After that though, there was always at the very least, some light and rain and drizzle around and then, that rain got heavier again towards the latter part of this afternoon and the early part of this evening.

That rain has now finally cleared away with some clear skies moving in from the north as we approached sunset. Indeed, there was even a little bit of late sunshine just before sunset, but this came too late to prevent today from going down as what is already our second completely sunless day of this month, and our fifth sunless day of this summer.

That is despite the fact that we are only three days into this month and since just an hour of sunshine is all that has been recorded in total throughout those three days, this month is clearly getting off to an exceptionally dull start, with that happening within this exceptionally dull so-called "summer" which we are continuing to endure just now.

As at 10pm tonight, a total of 4.6 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 10am (09:00 UTC) this morning along with 5.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today was also cooler than yesterday with the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank only getting up to a rather disappointing 15.3°C which is very poor fare indeed, for what is supposed to be high "summer".

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight was around 12°C here in Edinburgh.
