Today's weather here in Edinburgh still isn't spectacular, but it is at least a massive improvement on those completely sunless and unseasonably cold conditions which we had to endure during yesterday.

There is still a lot of cloud around, but there has also been some sunny intervals at times which means that a total of 18 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10am this morning. That still isn't very much, but it at least gives us our first recorded sunshine of this month which is better than nothing at all.

Last night's overnight temperature was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 10.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Although it still isn't the least bit warm here for this time of the year, it is already warmer than what it was at any time throughout yesterday and so, the temperature at 10am this morning was around 13°C to 14°C here in Edinburgh.

After a fair morning with some sunshine, the weather took a turn for the worst in the afternoon with a spell of blustery thundery rain and a couple of lighting bangs at 2.45 pm. Gave me a much needed useful 7.2 mm but also picked out the leaky bits in my recently repaired/patched up roof.  But it did get properly squally-like for about 10 mins.

Now overcast with light rain and an October-feeling 16.1 c & 90% from a peak of 19.3 c at 1.15 pm, but winds are now much lighter and hopefully the sun should come back out again before long going by the satellite images.  Incidentally the current light rain has topped it up to 10.0 mm currently.

Yet another vile grey day in this vile grey 2007/2012 type summer consisting of the same monotonous miserable garbage day in day out.

Just started raining and the temperature is a stupidly cold 12.1C. Absolutely horrific for the start of July and no different to the temperatures of late December/early January

Today's weather hasn't exactly been all that exciting here (it hardly ever is in this part of the world), but it has been a vast improvement in what we saw during yesterday. There has still been a lot of cloud around though, with just a few sunny intervals at times.

That cloud broke up a bit more during the early part of this evening, but it has now clouded over once again as I write. This has resulted in yet another abysmal sunshine total (which has been very much, the story of this so-called "summer") with just exactly an hour of sunshine being recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Even that is still better than what we had during yesterday to such an extent that this total which I have just recorded is also the total for this month so far and for that to be the case after two long days in what should be high summer, is just absolutely pathetic.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 17.8°C and although that isn't exactly spectacular for this time of the year, it is a hell of a lot better than those ridiculously cold temperatures for this time of the year which we had to experience during yesterday.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening was around 15°C here in Edinburgh.
