All of the above data is taken from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and is for up until 20:00 UTC (9pm BST) on 27 July 2020.

This month's data runs from 09:00 UTC (10am BST) on 1 July 2020

This summer's data runs from 09:00 UTC (10am BST) on 1 June 2020

This year's data runs from 09:00 UTC (9am GMT) on 1 January 2020

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

Minimum Requirements for this month to be met between 09:00 UTC (10am BST) today and 09:00 UTC (10am BST) on 1 August 2020, and are based on the 1981-2010 average for the current month.

Minimum Requirements for this summer to be met between 09:00 UTC (10am BST) today and 09:00 UTC (10am BST) on 1 September 2020, and are based on the 1981-2010 summer average.

This makes today, the wettest day of this summer so far at both of those stations.

This means that this month will go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts at both of those stations , regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, as there has now been more rain during this month at both of those stations than each station's respective 1981-2010 July average.

This also means that this this month will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month  as there has now been more official rain days there during this month than the 1981-2010 July average for that particular station.

Just a few days ago, this month was was actually looking almost certain to go down as being substantially drier than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, yet our increasingly long wait for our first drier than average summer month at both of those stations since July 2018 goes on.

42.6mm (-34mm) here
Year so far is on 362mm (-76mm)

This is a much shorter report than normal because a total of just 0.2 mm of rain has been added to the totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank since my last report here, along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that there has been no change to the number of official rain days at either of those stations.

As it stands just now as at 10am (09:00 UTC) this morning, there still needs to be another official rain day at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the same time on Saturday 1 August 2020, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the number of official rain days.

Light rain and drizzle is falling here just now, but that is struggling just now to register as any sort of actual rainfall at any of my local stations because it is so light.

As tomorrow is forecast to be much drier, this month is only likely to be wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official days if that required rain day occurs within the next 24 hours, so it really needs to come from this latest rainfall event which is currently ongoing.

I did say on a recent post that we could well be struggling in the end, to get that last required official rain day at Edinburgh Gogarbank and it looks as though that is continuing to be the case just now.

Only 28mm for the month at the local Blackbushe weather station. Despite a few wet days the ground is very dry - it's sandy soil around here and quite dusty in most places. Grass is greener than it was in June (when it was totally straw like) but still fairly yellow in many places.

93mm for the month here. Amazingly though if you go for a walk in the woods or out in the countryside there's not a lot of muddy ground about and that's after nearly 200mm over June and July. It just shows how incredibly dry March April and May were.

I make it 540mm for the year, which is probably above average in part due to the very wet February, June and July. Not really got enough data to know what the average is but probably 800mm - 850mm for the year. Bradford average is 872mm and about 470mm by end of July.
Quite amazing considering how dry 3 very dry months and a dry January.

July rainfall, taking an average of two local PWSs, comes to 24.8mm, which is 53% of the 1981-2020 LTA for Edenbridge.

So the lack of rainfall here in the west Kent mini-climate continues, as does the daily garden watering.  I will have to give up growing fruit in the garden, and grow cacti instead.  Ah well, at least the warm sunshine means that the fruit is ripening nicely, which it certainly didn't do in the disastrous summer of 2012.

Overall, July 2020 was a slightly wetter than average month at both of those stations, both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, and in terms of the number of official rain days.

After a wet start, it was a month which actually looked as though it was going to end up being substantially drier than average until a very wet spell towards the end of the month put paid to those chances.

A disgusting total of 86.4mm (159%) here making it the wettest month since November 2019, the wettest summer month since the record breaking horror of June 2017 and the wettest July since 2016.

July rainfall total has not been below 40mm since 2006 which is the longest run of any month. October is next having last recorded below 40mm in 2007 but rainfall has always been significantly higher during that month. Such a long run without a proper dry July is without precedent in the past 160 years.

Rainfall for the summer now on 134.2mm so well placed to exceed the average of 163.2mm for an incredulous 12th time in the 14 years since 2007

More rain has fallen in this wretched summer than during the whole record dry January to May period

January to May: 129.2mm

June & July: 134.2mm

Diabolical but could see it coming a mile off as it's the same every year nowadays

Even more marked at the nearby Westhill SEPA site

January to May: 132.7mm

June & July: 181.2mm

Looking at monthly rain averages since 2007 July is now in third place and a dry October could see it rise to second. % of 81-10 average in brackets.

Nov: 80.6mm (99%)

Oct: 77.3mm (93%)

July: 77.1mm (142%)

Aug: 71.5mm (132%)

Jan: 67.4mm (110%)

June: 63.8mm (116%)

Dec: 61.8mm (89%)

Feb: 57.5mm (112%)

Sept: 49.4mm (84%)

March: 45.1mm (84%)

April: 43.0mm (78%)

May: 41.9mm (86%)

Ridiculous and another set of horror stats that perfectly illustrates the catastrophic decline of summer
