Just had a moderate shower pass though here, which consisted entirely of soft hail.  The particles observed landing on the windowsill were all small, angular (not round) shaped, some transparent, some white and opaque, and up to 5mm across. No snow.

Wintry showers earlier, now a very heavy hail shower. Large grains depositing a covering and up to 1/2" drifts. The irony of the date is not missed, BST!

Partly cloudy with that strong NNE'ly persisting. Out of the wind it's very pleasant. 6C, dewpoint -0.1C.

Other than that rain shower earlier, it's remained dry.

A beautiful day in Edinburgh, mostly sunny with light winds. Chilly though, only 7 C so far. Nice out in the sheltered garden

Another totally dire, cold, grey, windy and depressing day here. Dismal and tedious max of 7.1C.

The past week has been the worst of the entire year so far with only 9.4 hours sun. In the 14 years I have been recording only the Marches of 2013, 2016 and 2018 have produced a weekly total as low as this but none of those weeks occurred this late in the month

Absolutely dreadful but could see this coming a mile off. Really wouldn't surprise me if February turns out to be the sunniest month of the year here

Varying amounts of cloud has come and gone at times, although there has been some decent sunny spells at times.

The result of this is that a total of 3.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank which still leaves us needing a minimum total of 1.1 hours of sunshine during the last two days of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall.

Over time though, this evening has descended into yet another spring borefest with yet more constant grey skies which has prevented us from getting the full benefit of that extra hour or so of daylight at this end of the day due to the change to British Summer Time.

In addition to that, the BBC forecasts have indicated that we are expected to see a lot of cloud during the next couple of days which means that our chances of this month being sunnier than average overall are no longer looking like the foregone conclusion which that appeared to be just a few days ago.

Given the really cold upper air temperatures which are supposedly in place just now, it's not actually been all that cold down here on the surface where today has actually turned out to be slightly warmer than yesterday.

Today's officially recorded maximum temperature at Edinburgh Airport was 8.7°C and the temperature at 8pm this evening was around 7°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
