This is now turning out to be a very wild and noisy night here in Edinburgh thanks to the continued presence of Storm Dennis, and this is not going to be very good for trying to sleep as it stands just now.

As at 10pm tonight, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was gusting up to 50.3mph from the SW, but the wind is still continuing to increase and it is so noisy out there just now with that wind, that the 11pm data is bound to show up much bigger gusts than that. Furthermore, even the mean wind speed at that same station was up to 32.3mph at 10pm and increasing.

Unlike in other parts of the UK, there's been no rainfall here in Edinburgh since 9am and so, today has just been the typical sort of borefest which we normally get here with all of the more interesting weather (apart from the wind) happening elsewhere. The end result of this though, is that a total of 5.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, the rain radar maps are showing that another band of rain is approaching from the NW so that this is probably going to be a a very lively night ahead in this part of the world.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 7.8°C.

With all of that wind around though, the temperatures are once again refusing to drop and so, the temperature at 10pm tonight was around 6°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
