Steady heavy snow in Central London - I'm surprised to be honest. A long rainy sleety start to it this morning so little chance of any settling - still...

Here in the flatlands we have moderate snow - no really floaty flakes but the stuff that falls near vertically.

There's a thin spattering on the grass and some roofs but little or nothing settling elsewhere.

Heavy sleety snow in Canary Wharf. If this is happening here then I would imagine there's some snow settling above 100m in the Downs, or at least will be soon.

First flakes of the year. Funny how often the "cold winter" only gets starting once the "dark winter" has finished. It was light when I left work yesterday.

Snow has turned lighter now and the temperature is edging upwards. A very wet scene. This view across the Chilterns is about as good as it got today and indeed this winter.

Temperature has dropped from 3c with sleet to 1.8c with light snow in the last 30 odd minutes here in Dartford!

If it snowed up here, I again slept through it - and nothing on the ground except puddles.

On the commute into Manchester, there were some cars with a covering of snow on their roofs, from around a cm to a couple of inches, so some places not too far away have done alright.

Yes heavy wet flakes full of water, thus heavier!! I prefer the floaty powdery fairy tale like flakes that blow around and upwards!

Still at least it's not a snowless winter in capital like 2013/14!?

On the way in it was rain, with the odd flake... looking at the skyscrapers 100m up in the air, you could see full heavy snow.
