At long long last, I finally get to report that we have clear skies and light winds here in Edinburgh and as a result of that, we finally at long long last, actually have an official air frost at Edinburgh Gogarbank and Edinburgh Airport.

Given tha manner in which this so-called "winter" has gone, it wouldn't surprise me if this was no longer the case when I wake up later on this morning as a result of it having clouded over again and indeed, the temperature at Edinburgh has gone back up to just above freezing as at midnight.

Nevertheless, this has now finally brought our ridiculously long frost free horror show to an end in its 26th night, technically speaking at least.

Meanwhile, the temperature here in Edinburgh at around midnight was around 0°C.

Finally, I have just woke up to something which has been a very rare sight in these parts during this winter, and that is a cold and frosty start to the day with an official air frost being recorded at all three of my local stations.

That in turn, has also taken us into a sunny start to the day. This is something to savour though, as I'm sure that normal service for this winter will no doubt, be resumed by this time tomorrow.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -2.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and -2.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was around -2°C here in Edinburgh.

1.3C with ground frost here - combined with thick fog and wind getting up to 30mph. Windchill is about -6, not pleasant out there.

A touch of winter outside, with the spiders' webs encrusted with hoar frost.

Still quite sunny, however I can see high cloud creeping in from the west. Anyhow, the sunshine held on for longer today than I thought.

The current 8.1 c (75% h) felt quite cold & fresh in a mod/fresh S breeze. It's also the same onshore breeze which prevented a frost from taking a hold overnight/this morning since it didn't get any lower than 4.6 c at 5 am. Exactly as per my own forecast.

An almost completely sunny morning means that a total of 3.8 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm this afternoon, although it is now in the process of becoming much cloudier from the west.

After a cold and frosty start though, the temperatures have recovered to reach a maximum of around 8°C just after lunchtime, although the temperatures have now dropped back to around 6°C here in Edinburgh as at 2pm this afternoon.
