Here in Edinburgh, we actually have a bright and sunny start to today for a change and if we can get a fairly sunny weekend out of that, this might yet be enough on its own for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall although the fact that we are now on the winter side of the Autumn Equinox means that there isn't enough available daylight for us to be able to go over that finishing line by the end of today.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 6.4°C which is colder than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was around 8°C here in Edinburgh.

Just popped out to get the papers and the 19.5 c felt positively balmy in the sunshine despite the brisk W breeze.

I'm still in shorts & T shirt with the central heating not needing to be on. Earlier on this morning I have turned the living room electric fire on for mother but half an hour later she got up and turned it off.

Wet and windy, 6.4mm rain so far this morning, including a sudden intense downpour while we were in Cheadle Hulme village. It was raining so hard we could hardly see across to the other side of the road.

Just before the downpour we were stopped by a guy who told me the rear number plate was hanging off the car, so put it on the rear parcel shelf and drove home. I don`t know why car manufacturers attach number plates with double sided sticky tape, it`s obviously not a safe way to fix them.

Still raining, up to 7.1mm now
