Some incredible, biblical scenes of flooding in Eastern Spain at present, especially in Alicante and Valencia.

The latest surface pressure charts don’t look too spectacular, but the lower pressure and onshore easterly flow is clearly causing some terrible weather.

Some genuinely awful scenes, and some fatalities. :-(

No doubt some ruined holidays too!

Absolutely horrendous, and not long after terrible floods hit Madrid and other parts of Spain (including around this region, I think).

I recall this region having a terrible spring, with some really bad weather in this period?

Must be really unusual to have such terrible weather in the late summer season.

The synoptic charts look fairly innocuous.. just goes to show what can happen when you have very high temperatures, a flabby low and an onshore wind.

I was in Valencia in July. This weather seems absolutely unthinkable.

We went to Granada 3 years ago. I was bricking it looking at the radar. Very hot. But rain of biblical proportions was forecast to hit somewhere near us. Ended up with 2 days of continuous torrential rain... 20 miles either side of us, while we sat in 35°C and sun. That was late August. Extreme events are increasing apace.

In June we were staying in Sitges, just south of Barcelona, for a week.

On one of the days it rained all day and the temp was around 14C. :O

The power of the water in that footage is remarkable and sobering. I remember being caught in flooding Spain many years ago and while it was intense it was nothing like this.

I’m in Majorca at the moment. Haven’t had any flooding here as were in the north of the island. Palma has been hit several times in the last week though. What we have had, however, are the most tremendous thunderstorms, the like of which I have ever seen before. Last night we had over two hours of natures light show entertainment. There was hardly any rain, and watched from my 9th floor balcony which was excellent. Although, today, I am hoping it will be sunnier and warmer, as that’s what I came here for!

Horrendous and depressing. Deeply concerning that Iberia no longer seems to have reliably good weather in what should still be peak holiday season. Although it usually rains hard when it does, it's not usually until October onwards.

Must be one of the worst years of weather on record there. I was in Northern Portugal in July and low cloud off the Atlantic was extensive stretching into Spain. Numerous days saw considerable cloud in Spain as well which I wouldn't expect away from the North coast at that time of year.

June had been even worse with inland areas of Northern Portugal seeing day temperatures of only 12C with heavy rain and it deteriorated again in late July after I was back home with rain, cloud and struggling to get into the 20s.

We were in Barcelona late May. First day was mid-20s and glorious, next mid-teens and persistent rain.

We've got friends near Mazzaron (about 90 miles west of Alicante) and they've been dry and sunny.
