There was some very heavy rain for a while during last night which in the end, meant that a total of 4.2 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That eventually made yesterday yet another official rain day at both stations.

However, all of that has now long gone, and this morning (and indeed, this weekend) has started off a completely bright and sunny note which means that if there is any such thing as a "weekend curse" (as Richard from Aberdoon would put it), that certainly isn't in play here in Edinburgh at the moment.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 12.0°C, and the temperature at 7am this morning was just over 12°C here in Edinburgh.

Once again as has been the case throughout this week, our weather is turning out to be both better and warmer than what the forecasts have been telling us.

Today started off on a sunny note. It didn't take long for more in the way of cloud to turn up as this morning went on, and there was even a brief shower of rain just before lunchtime.

However, this has resulted in just 0.2 mm of rain being recorded from that at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Furthermore, this afternoon has been mostly sunny once again until now with the result that a total of 5.3 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm this afternoon so with the next few days looking fairly sunny (though possibly showery) with a possible further improvement next week, our chances of a sunnier than average month this time still look very much alive and well just now.

The wind has picked up once again and was gusting up to 36.7mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 2pm this afternoon. It is also slightly cooler than yesterday but once again, it is still a bit warmer than what it was forecast to be which means that we once again can't rule out the possibility of late afternoon rally of the temperatures in that sunshine up to 20°C or 21°C just like what happened during yesterday.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 2pm this afternoon was around 18°C.

Yes, I see you were near to that meandering front Steve. Our day otherwise was much like yours- pleasant, 21.4 max (20.3 now), sun in and out and we could see much more cloud to the S.

Is that waving front likely to hit the south coast of Dorset/ Hampshire? Seems farther north in the south west approaches than was and is currently being forecast?

We're okay here in S inland Hants Scotty; but the forecasts have stressed the uncertainty about N'wards extent. What's it like in the sky to your S? Should be more continuous than just the prevalent Cu if the front is coming to get ya.

I must admit that I wasn't too far away a short time ago from bringing this month's convection thread back to life, as we have just had quite an intense torrential downpour. However, I didn't believe that this was enough on this occasion for me to post anything there as this downpour although very intense for a while, was also very short-lived without any thunder or lightning.

It then wasn't long before the Sun came out once again and so far as at 6pm this evening, a total of 8.2 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

We won't know what today's actual maximum temperatures for here actually were until that comes through with the 18z synop data for 7pm this evening. However, today's provisional maximum temperature based on the highest hourly reading was 18.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was a bit cooler than yesterday.

The wind has now started to die down a bit after today's maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank got up to to 36.7mph from the WSW.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 6pm this evening was 15.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
