Wind has decreased here now, although we’re still getting strong gusts but less frequent.

What was mostly a nice day here in Edinburgh eventually went out with a bang due to a massive thunderstorm and it is still raining as I write.

In the end, a total of 7.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today as a result at Edinburgh Gogarbank but with nothing at all in that department since 5pm this afternoon.

Remarkably though for such a large storm, the rainfall totals haven't been all that massive this time with a total of just 4.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm this evening, but that is along with 14.8 mm at the botanic gardens where 10.8 mm of that had fallen in a single hour after it had been completely dry all day right up until 7pm this evening. Furthermore, this means that once again, today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations as a result.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 22.8°C which makes today the warmest day of this month so far, although the temperature at 9pm this evening had dropped to around 16°C.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
