The overnight period was very entertaining with a thunderstorm in the early hours of this morning which was followed by a period of just heavy rain.
That has now cleared away though and normal service has been resumed once again in this part of the world because after it had looked for a while as though it was about to brighten up, this morning has now descended into a dull and overcast borefest with constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening, although the odd bit of brightness has started to appear once again.
The result of this is that a total of 5.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 6.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations as a result.
Last night has been warm and humid throughout, although it did briefly get a bit cooler before the thunderstorms arrived with an overnight minimum temperature of 16.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 20.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 21°C at Edinburgh Airport and 19.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
