The other thing I found remarkable about the heat in France on Friday was the strength of the wind. I tried to capture it on video but it's difficult to film the strongest gusts! However the temperature at the time was around 43C.

Imagine how stiflingly hot it would have felt had it been calm.

It was the hottest weather I've experienced since visiting Death Valley about 15 years ago. We were in France for about 18 days and it was clear by around June 19th that an exceptional spell was very possible. The GFS picked it several days before the Meteo France forecasts (prob use ECM for their 10 dayers) started showing real heat. My wife picked the dates for the holiday and i must say her timing was absolutely immaculate!

I’ve experienced 38c in India and that was hot enough!  Let me know what dates Mrs BG books for your next holiday!

It seems to have reached 46C in Tarrega in Spain today (45.8C to be exact).

Bernburg in Germany got to 40C, as did Carpentras, rounding off an incredible week for lower Provence.

Sites in Czech and Austria both managed 39C, and Poland 38C.

Actually the EC op runs were also showing it 10 days in advance and also its ensemble picked it up 12-13 days in advance. I assume MF was just cautious.

No and I think that is probably the reason.

With all of that heat over in the continent just now, I wouldn't like to imagine what it will be like just now for all of those female football players who are currently taking part in the Women's World Cup over in France.

As far as I can recall, I'm sure that they have a system in place for that for taking drinks breaks in those conditions in order to ensure that the players remain hydrated and so, I would imagine that there will be a lot of that going on just now.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I sometimes wonder if those fans on the VP2 make any real difference to temp readings inside the screen.

It will hopefully reach you later...

Similar story here - although happened an hour or so earlier, obviously. We had a few spots of rain, too. Then it all cleared and felt fresher. I'd been out in the car at around 6pm before the front moved through and the thermometer read 28.5c. Went to pick some friends up at 7pm, and it said 19c.

We were having some post-BBQ drinks in gazebo () and ended up putting one of the heaters on.

Still, as has been said, was nice to get a cooler night's sleep

That's a very nice video Brian. 43C and a breeze like that. Reminds me of an Australian summer. It often used to amaze me how hot it could get with a breeze.

Yes that was my thought. I remember being in Melbourne once when it was 41C with a strong wind, it felt like an actual hair dryer!

For some reason I couldn't access the forum on Saturday.

Quite a notable day for a number of reasons.

At 10am the temperature was already at 24.5C. Now here is the incredible bit. Climbing up from the centre of Glossop (140 masl) to the Snake Pass Summit ( over 500m asl) the temperatre actually rose to 25C!

This showed the effect of the extreme upper air plume at play. Once I got over the Snake summit the temperature dropped and was only 22C when I arrived in Sheffield Centre at 11am.

The warmer temps in Glossop were as result of the Local Foehn effect we get here when the setup is right.

Coming home at 2pm the temperature was 27.5C in Sheffield. Just after passing Ladybower and on my way back to Glossop the temperature rose to an incredible 29.5C on my car display. To see these sorts of temperaures over the Pennine routes is quite rare indeed.

Dropping back into Glossop and the temperature at 3pm was 31C degrees in Glossop town centre and 30.5C at my house. It felt properly hot in the keen SSE breeze. My home setup read 30.6C.

The cold front coming through was very noticable at 7pm. Within 1 hour it dropped from 28C and still to 19C with a fresher SW wind. We had a couple of very short showers with huge raindrops but no thunder.
