It's +1.5c here in Exeter - well hopefully this is second half of winter will herald a change! Certainly seems like it judging by model outputs and Met Office. keeping Fingers crossed that we actually have some wintry weather and soon - Like many - I am fed up with autumnal drizzle and overcast mild, damp dross! This winter has been uneventful for many!
Looks like Exeter will not see a frost tomorrow morning as rain is heading our way! - Nice to have a cold and crisp night for once and I feel this is a sign of things to come as well.
BTW -1.3c at midnight is hardly cold and nothing unusual for any city in the UK let alone Edinburgh, but it's a start and will be a sign of things to come!
It's worth noting though that even during last year's Beast from the East events when we last had a lot of snow, the temperatures during the night were still never all that cold because when it was snowing, it was cloudy (plus, we had that wind coming in from off the North Sea as well) and as we all know, too much cloud will usually result in the temperature refusing to drop (as does too much wind). However, there was a lot more frosts around up until this point during last winter, than what there has been this time.
Having said that though, I don't actually see any frost around this morning, but today has started off on a cold note with an official air frost at all three of my local stations. The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh just now, although there is also a lot of thin high cloud around.
Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -3.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -5°C at Edinburgh Airport and -2.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was -1.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -5°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
