1989 was another- I believe March was warmer than April then. And, like 2012, May was warm.

There have been 14 times in the CET record when April was cooler than March.

The biggest difference were in 1780, when March was 7.9 and April 6.3.
1938 was another year with a big difference, 9.1 in March down to 7.6 in April.
2012 had the third biggest drop.

Ditto.  I'm out of this year's competition already.  Global warming is at fault, not Global Warming.

The official Hadley figure for March is 8.67C

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_mean_2017

That is the third warmest March on record beaten only by 1957 with 9.2C and 1938 with 9.1C.

East Anglia had its joint warmest March on record of 9.1C (equalling 1938) and SE England also had its equal warmest March on record of 9.2C (equalling 1957).

https://blog.metoffice.gov.uk/2017/04/04/one-of-the-mildest-marches-for-the-south-east/

The maximum CET for March was 12.4C which is the 8th warmest on record and only the warmest since 2012. Way below the record of 13.8C in 1938.

The minimum CET for March was 4.9C which is the third warmest on record (warmest was 5.6C in 1957)

1972/3 342.3mm
1933/4 347.0mm
1975/6 368.2mm
1991/2 381.7mm
1947/8 385.8mm
1943/4 386.6mm
1897/8 392.5mm

1921/2 409.8mm
2016/7 409.9mm

Well not surprisingly everyone went too high this month.

But congratulations to markwells who was fairly close with 8.2C.

I will catch up with all the tables over Easter. Apologies for the lack of posts of late. Have been way too busy. Am taking a break from work starting next Thursday for a week and a half so will get right up to date during that period.

One final stat for this evening.

The mean CET for the period 15 Feb to 31 Mar 2017 is 8.40C. This is the highest on record for this period since 1772.

Previous highest was 8.15C in 1997

So no surprise that Spring has really taken off very early this year. We are at least 3 weeks ahead down here in the south.

The daily mean CET for 30th March was 15.1C

This is a CET record mean for any March day going back to 1772

There have been a few higher CET maxima than the 19.2C recorded on that day but they all had much lower minima thus ensuring the CET mean took the record by 0.3C

That's an incredible stat , I'm sure we can add the first week of April to it now as well. Remarkable times.

It is quite a remarkable figure particularly when you consider there have only ever previously been 3 days in March when the CET mean has exceeded 14C, two of which were way back in 1777.

Warmest March daily CET means:

15.1C 30/3/2017
14.8C 27/3/1777
14.6C 26/3/1777
14.1C 18/3/1990

The first date on which the 1981-2010 CET mean exceeds 15C is 19 June with a figure of 15.2C. So the temperature on 30 March was more typical of mid June rather than late March.

The CET minimum on 30 March of 11.0C was the second warmest on record for any date in March after 11.2C on 30 March 1998. The 10.7C recorded on 31 March was the third warmest on record for March after 10.9C on 27 March 2006. In fact 8 of top 9 warmest CET minimums in March have occurred since 1981 and 7 since 1998.

Warmest CET minimums in March:

11.2C 30/3/1998
11.0C 30/3/2017
10.9C 27/3/2006
10.7C 31/3/2017
10.4C 22/3/1927
10.4C 17/3/2005
10.3C 09/3/2000
10.1C 11/3/1981
10.0C 08/3/2000

No sorry I am well behind due to being very busy. February results are about to be uploaded into the April thread.

March results will also be posted into the April thread but not sure yet when that will be.
