Not directly CET related but I was looking at a few of the local station reports as the mild air spread in earlier in the week and noticed that the maximum temperature at Altnahara was -1.6C at 14:00 on 5th and +12.1C at 23:00 on 6th

I wonder how often the maximum temperature on 2 consecutive days in winter can increase by nearly 14 degrees ?

Probably not going to be as mild as last year, but gfs shows little sign of much in the way of below average, and as for frost or snow - forget it! where did those easterlies go?

What a difference 12 hours make, eh?

No shortage of frost on this morning's GFS, and a run of days with CETs not far off zero if (and it's a big if) the high plays ball.

This month is starting to feel in temperature terms at least very much in the boringly mild 2011 or 2013 category. Contrary to many people I actually found last December quite interesting because it was so spectacularly warm and such a contrast to the run of cold Decembers recently culminating in the severe  month of 2010. Still plenty of time for it all to change though and it will need to if my guess is to have any chance . ..

I'd have thought this month would have been getting colder but it's quite the opposite.  My chance is slipping further away every day!

Get you, with your relative accuracy!

I know GW's busy, but I'm itching to see both the table following November, and the table of guesses for December.

I went for 3.9c, after initially flirting with a guess in the 2-point-something range  God, am I easily suckered-in

I have underestimated how mild it would be, by an increasingly large margin.  Oh dear. I await the table in the knowledge that 11 months of hard graft could easily be scuppered by a one month blow out.  Someone that gambled very high will be  pleased when the table is published.  I went high, but not high enough methinks.

I went for 6.1C but wish I'd gone higher! Should get a nice little rally up the chart to end the year.
