Seems like those cold nights at Pershore were in some way overlooked?

Here are the charts for October. We ended up very slightly above the 1981-2010 mean. Minimum temperatures were bang on average.

For the Autumn as a whole we remain well above average but not as much as were at the end of September due to the October anomaly being minimal.

Annual CET competition - October update

Here are the latest tables. The top two swap places with GezM back to the top of the table for the first time since January.

Some notable large climbers into the top 10 this month with Shoeshoe up to 3rd and Whether Idle up 11 places to fourth, both at their highest positions this year.

Gusty is also continuing to climb now up to 7th place, a rise of 22 places in the past 3 months. Spring Sun Winter Dread is up 10 to eighth.

Only 1C separates the top 10 and only 1C separates 3rd place from 22nd place. So there is still plenty of opportunity for big changes in the table during the last two months.

2016 22.2C Trawsgoed

1968 19.4C Margate

Chart of the month for October - the precipitation anomaly. A very dry month indeed particularly in the west. The synoptic patterns was an anomalous region of high pressure over Scandinavia which resulted in a lot of easterly winds. Hence why the east coast did not see dry conditions but everywhere else did.

The mean temperature anomaly chart shows most places close to average although some areas were nearer to 1C above average. Coldest place relative to average was the north coast of Cornwall and Devon

Sunshine largely mirrors rainfall with the east no better than averages due to cloud coming in off the north sea. The far north west of Scotland had a phenomenal month for sunshine at close to 200% of mean in some places.

The Met Office has recently issued the final temperature highs for August. We had one date record this year but only two days where the temperature reached 30C. We managed three 30C+ days in September.

Thanks for the considerable effort that you put into this competition, GW.  I appreciate the time it must take you.  This really is one of the best things about TWO, which is, of course, a brilliant site, so thanks to BG for being "the Daddy".
