December was fractionally above the 1981-2010 mean so we finish the year at 10.56C which is 0.55C above the long run mean.

Met Office have 10.58C on their website but they just average the temperatures for each of the 12 months. However, because not all months have the same number of days, I do a daily calculation which is why my figure is slightly different.

We have joint winners this year being Caz and rickm who were both 0.01C out from the final figure. Congratulations to them.

How did I manage to do that?  I’m happy to share the success with Rickm and wish everyone as much luck for the 2018 competition!

Well done both winners- amazing to be only 0.1 out in a 10 degree figure. Prophetic!

The text box on my tables is not print capturing at the moment for some reason. Need to investigate this. In the meantime here it is below.

10.09C - so slightly above the 1981-2010 mean of 9.97C

April to June 2017 were warm - especially May and June. So we could see the mean fall quite a bit in the next three months if we keep the cool conditions.

Here is a chart of the rolling 12 month mean since 1979. The current mean is the lowest since November 2015 which was the last time we were below 10C.

Thanks GW..

Looks like most people have over-estimated the Annual CET then. (including yours truly!)..

It also looks as if it could well be going into a downtrend (AMO?)...

After a warm April we are now in line with the 1971-2000 mean but below the 1981-2010 mean by about one quarter of a degree.

So far this year all months have been more than 0.5 warmer or colder than the mean.

We are now just above the 1981-2010 mean for the year as a whole after a very warm May. Three warm months and two cold months. Nothing remotely close to average so far this year.
