The temperatures this year have been very high indeed, particularly the maximums.

My maximum temperature anomalies for Basingstoke for the first 3 months of 2014 are as follows:

Jan +2.7C
Feb +2.7C
Mar +3.1C

However, there are at least 5 other years in recent times when the overall mean maximum for the first three months was even higher than this year. Just goes to show how many very mild years we have seen in the last 25 years.

Minimums in Jan and Feb were also more than 2C above average but for March the anomaly is only +0.7C. The average minimum in March was just 0.1C higher than in January.

Pah, diddled by a late switch yet again. Why oh why could that warmer snap not have come along a couple days later?

Here are the charts for March. Another very warm month although this time only the maximum temperature was on the very warm side. The mean maximum for March was 2.3C above normal and the 12th warmest on record. The minimum CET was only 0.4C above normal.

Here is the March update for the annual competition.

We have a new leader this month as markwells takes over from Martyn at the top of the table. Very close though as Gusty is just 0.01C behind. All of the top 5 have had prediction errors of less than 0.5C in each of the first three months of 2014 which is very impressive.

Those with stars next to their position are at their highest position of the year in the table. Plenty of big climbers and fallers in the middle to lower reaches of the table. A long way to go yet though.

Cheers - excellent stuff and thanks for these stats. Interesting month March was and what a huge contrast to last year.

The March update is fine , but should it not be in the Annual prediction thread.

Cheers, GW. As all three months this year have entered their final third, I've thought I'd be there or thereabouts (perhaps within 0.5c), but the models have backtracked and the trend has took the final figure away from my forecast.

Still just about going the right way up the leaderboard - Though I fear April may send me back the other way.
