Extrapolating from the provisional Hadley figure to 22nd Feb using GFS raw data leaves us almost dead-on 6*C for the final figure.

Not sure how much of a correction is then likely to occur - perhaps only 0.1*C or so?

Whatever it ends up as - I'll be close, which is good.

Very much on the mild side Gavin. Latest output this morning supports a CET for the second half of February of 7C. That would push the overall mean for the month to just above 6C.

If that verifies the CET for the winter as a whole would finish at just about exactly 6C which is 1.5C above the 1971-2000 mean.

Odds on now for the warmest winter since 2006/7.

The winter CET has only exceeded 6C on six occasions since 1900 with all bar one of them since 1975.

Prior to 1900 the winter CET exceeded 6C on five occasions.

So this winter could be the 12th warmest on record in the CET series.

There sure will be some interesting stats crunching when this winter ends on Saturday. You've been bang on with this month coming in extremely mild for its last couple of weeks.

I have not had a chance to do my own CET calculations this month but based on the provisional Hadley data the CET should finish around 6.28C. So even once the month end adjustments are taken into account I would expect us to still finish at 6C or more.

The overall winter CET should also finish just above 6C. So still on course for the 12th warmest on record in the CET series.
