According to YouTuber 'Hiloamenn', latest data suggests that magma is only 1km from the surface now, making an eruption occuring sometime in the very near future very possible. We'll see anyways.

Today’s update suggests that eruption is likely within the next couple of days, possibly the next 24 hours.

For the love of God, Iceland volcano, will you just erupt! The waiting game is starting to grate on my nerves! 😅

I it's looking like this time the dyke will fail to erupt.

The experts seem to be suggesting that an eruption is still the most likely outcome.

It's being suggested that it is still looking for the easiest route out. Some say it'll erupt right below, or even on, Mt keilir, while others claim that the magma is being bounced back to the more traditional (in recent years) eruption site. All we can do at this stage is wait and see.

Rocks fall from Mt. Keilir yesterday during one of the stronger earthquakes reported in the region yesterday.

Apparently the eruption may be about to start.

Smoke is currently visible here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q1N4J5oTSE

Low cloud impeding views on the more southern located cams so hard to judge exactly on what part of the map the eruption is taking place. I assume that it just north of those hills and on the southern edge of that older 'lava plain'. Hopefully RUV or MDL will set up a more appropriately located cam soon, but that is likely much easier said than done.

This link  should give a decent overview of any developments.

MDL have a nice full view cam up now. Looks pretty big at this early stage.

Really cranking up tonight from the main cone. Very much shades of the 2021 spectacle. I'm actually surprised at the size of the cone lava cone already:

I think it may actually be an eruption that occurred on 28 June 2023, as I've not found other sources of todays eruption:-

Still impressive plume as you've said.

Thanks for that. I went there in 1998. The lake is a caldera and I wondered why so many expensive houses were built on the rim.

Look at this video from yesterday. What's going on on the right hand side of the image from just over halfway through? Is it a tornado, or a firenado, or something else?

Or similar, you can often see mini devils/twisters around the volcano, obviously due to temperature differences but still fascinating to watch when they occur, especially over the hot lava which then sends lots of sparks off.

Don't feed the Trolls!! When starved of attention they return to their dark caves or the dark recesses of bridges and will turn back to stone, silent again!
