After a dull, murky and damp morning with even some drizzle, it has now brightened up considerably with the current 19.5 C & 85% H feeling pleasantly warm in the sunshine. Still a bit of an onshore SW breeze but perfect for airing house out with windows open.

We get the sun and hint of warmth (21c), only to have a stiff breeze take the edge off

Here in Edinburgh, the weather has just turned rather nasty thanks to the tail end of former Tropical Storm Alex/Agetha.

Most of today has been quite reasonable with a total of 7.1 hours of Sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon, and even the temperature at time wasn't too bad at around 19°C.

However, it then suddenly turned a lot darker for a while as a squall line has moved through with some heavy driving rain.

In addition to that, today has been very windy here with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank reaching 38.0 mph from the SW, and possibly higher along that squall line.

Finally reached 20C today with a max of 20.1C but in the last half hour the sunshine has given way to ominous dark skies and heavy rain. 1.6mm in the past 5 minutes and needless to say no thunder.

Here in Edinburgh, that earlier squall line moved through so quickly that a total of just 1.0 mm of rain was recorded from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, there has since been a further downpour with heavy and torrential rainfall during this evening and the totals from that have still to come through as I write.

There was some nice sunshine in between those downpours though. Indeed, the Sun is shining here once again as I write and as at 8pm this evening, a total of 9.7 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In addition to that, the wind has also died down quite a lot after the maximum wind gusts for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank reached 40.3 mph from the SW.

Furthermore, today was also our warmest day of this summer so far and our second warmest day of this year so far although the standards for that are very poor at the moment.

Today's maximum temperature was 19.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and just 19.5°C at what used to be Jerry's local station at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh.

However, today's maximum temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh was 20.1°C which is exactly the same as what Richard has just reported for Aberdeen and just like up there, this means that I finally get to say that Edinburgh has had its first temperature of this summer of 20°C or above at long, long last!!

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was around 16°C here in Edinburgh.
