I'm surprised it's still holding up but I expect it will drop back a little over the next few days. High pressure is looking more dominant in mid April but its position will be crucial for the CET. ECM has favoured a continental high pressure for a few days now which would usher in mild south westerlies. GFS has been flirting with high pressure over us probably giving warm days and cool nights and thus averaging out near normal, but has also frequently shown us retrogression or northern blocking allowing cold northerlies or easterlies to move over the UK.

So at the moment I think any outcome from cool to mild at month end is possible.

Insane that we are nearly a degree above average. In April a frosty night of -1C today would no doubt have been -2C 30 years ago. A high of 9 would have been 8 etc.

Of course these averages are rolling ones for the MTD.
As the month progresses the target will shoot up just like it plummets in October.
I'm very much keeping the powder dry re any predictions of cold month. The start of April 2019 was cold but this was quickly forgotten as we hit an epic heatwave over the Easter period (falling late that year in the second half of the month).
2012, 2016 and 2021 are probably the only examples in the last 30 or so years where cooler conditions have sustained during the month

Onwards and upwards from here for at least the next week or so - probably quite rapidly too.

And then hopefully more or less level off, perhaps inch up by a tenth of a degree
