Nuuk, Greenland's only town has its first snowfall of the season (bear in mind it is fairly close to sea level).

An improvement on the previous links as there are a lot more in one place this year.

I've posted this before but as I type there's a proper blizzard taking place. The snow will fall and then melt for a bit but by the end of the month it seems to remain on the ground for the winter which is a long time up there. If you click on different links you can travel around the country. For example snow in Reykjavik is whilst not unusual not as much as one might expect. Today it's just unpleasantly windy it seems.

Meanwhile in Svalbard .... I've never seen it this green in mid October. Usually a full snow cover in place by late September:

At least temperatures are now dropping back down to below freezing so it will be frosty and eventually the snow will arrive!

I've been watching Svalbard very closely all year. They had their usual first brief transitory snow cover very early this year (mid September) but since then its been green as you say. The cold air has arrived and lasting snow should arrive later today or tomorrow.

Virtually no snow on the highest peaks here. There's normally more than this even during the summer and these peaks are around 5000ft this must be very unusual for mid November and clearly southern Norway is in the same exceptionally mild SW airstream that we are in.

I see that Cairngorm now has a live streaming camera at the Ptarmigan restaurant. It could be interesting viewing this winter.

I've just bookmarked that as it will be great to see the first snow of the season falling, even if I'm not actually there in person to be able to witness that.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
