Latest CET tracker for December shows a finishing number of 6.27C. The CET mean for tomorrow (NYE) could get above 13C. The date record for 31 Dec is 11.1C set in 1859 so we will easily beat that. The all time December daily CET mean record is 13.1C set on 19 December 2015. We could get close to that tomorrow. Chart 1 Chart 2 |

Highest temperature today was Cambridge NIAB at 15.6C Yesterday was Exeter AP at 15.7C Both days have a date record of 16.1C so we were fairly close. Tomorrow the date record is only 15.6C so a very good chance it will be broken. |

So was that wrong on the BBC News last night when they said the date record for New Year's Eve was 14.8C somewhere in Wales? |

The higher one mentioned by GW is old data, for whatever reason it's no longer considered relevant. At least the new record (15.8, but I wouldn't be surprised to see higher after the 18z SYNOP reports) is non-contentious!

I'd have nailed this one if that cold spell had materialised. Missed this one out by miles - went for 4.75C ended up over 6.0C |

Annual CET competition - year-end update Firstly congratulations to marting for winning the December competition with an error of just 0.04C. In the annual table there is no change at the top this month. In the end Spring Sun Winter Dread is a comfortable winner by just over 1C. Saint Snow finishes second and Bolty third. Grandad props up the table this year with an error of 20.02C. Link to full size table This table shows all the monthly prediction errors and positions of everyone in the final table. Yellow highlight indicates a prediction error of <0.5C and orange highlight indicates a missed prediction. Table 2 Edited by user 01 January 2022 15:23:10(UTC)
